There are always going to be innovations and gimmicks available to you, so here are a couple simple tips to help you pick the right board. Choose a board that is wide enough for you. If you wear a size 12 boot you will need to look for a wide model, if you wear a womens size 6 you should be looking at womens freestyle boards. If you weigh 125 pounds you should look for a board that has a softer flex than a board built for someone who is over 180 pounds. If you live in thee east and ride icy conditions most of the time consider a board that has carbon to help keep that edge dug in while turning.
Side cut is the hourglass shape that makes your board turn. The numbers you may see referred to as the radius are the size of the sidecut in your board. The larger the number the mellower each turn is going to feel, the smaller the number the tighter and more aggressive each turn will feel. A small radius provides for a more skateboard like feel, while a larger radius rides like a surfboard.
Spray paint your board. Easy to do. Then sticker it. Done.
